It is possible to minimize the clipboard and then change your views so the clipboard disappears from view. 

Pressing the ESC key toggles the clipboard between being minimized and maximized.  If you still can't see the clipboard then try a different view, (F1-F5), and press ESC again then resize the clipboard with the plus and minus buttons on the top right of the clipboard.
